The Cryptic Wood-white & the Wood-white are impossible to tell apart with the naked eye. They can only be safely distinguished by microscopic examination of the genitalia, which differ to the extent that it is impossible for the two to interbreed. In Ireland the Wood-white is mostly confined to the Burren region, which is where the one below was photographed.
